The Summer School Law (BISS) is a short and concise specialised course on European and International Consumer Law, which takes place over the duration of one week. The course is conducted through English by international guest lecturers. Participants have the opportunity to theoretically and practically engage for approx. 6 hours each day to discuss European and International Consumer Law.

Format: Substantive Law & Case Studies

Course Content: European and International Consumer
  • General Consumer Protection Law – The EU Directive on Consumer Rights 2011/83/EU (Prof. Christian Twigg-Flesner, University of Hull)
  • Specific Contracts – Consumer Sales, Consumer Credit (Prof. Dr. sc. Vesna Tomljenović, University of Rijeka)
  • Tourist Services – Package Travel, Timeshare and Transport of Passengers (Prof. Dr. Sergio Cámara Lapuente, University La Rioja)
  • Financial Services and Protection of Private Investors (Prof. Dr. Peter Jung, Universität Basel)
  • Consumer Protection in International Relationships – Applicable law, Jurisdiction, Trans Border Enforcement (Dr. Francesca Ragno, University of Verona)
Course Fee: The all-inclusive course fee amounts to 480 € for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The fee includes courses, accommodation and food, a Regional Culture Programme and organized evening events following the courses, a Farewell-Evening and Saturday weekend excursion.

Certificate and ECTS Credits: Upon regular attendance of the course, active participation and short presentations on European Court of Justice (ECJ) decisions, participants will receive a certificate with ECTS credits. These credit points are widely recognised by many universities. You can accomplish 5 to 15 ECTS depended on the workload of the course. You can discuss your amount of ECTS with the professors on location.
