Armed forces veterans living in Spain are struggling to get by after the pound went into freefall against the euro, British Legion volunteers have told i. There are an estimated 30,000 veterans living in Spain, some of whom are pensioners while others are wounded former service people. Volunteers offering help to these veterans said there had been a 50 per cent rise in calls for help or advice since the British government’s mini-Budget last Friday which sent the financial markets into freefall.

The Spanish Local Municipal Elections take place on May 28, 2023 but many Brits living in Spain who previously enjoyed their right to vote will find it is now much harder. As a result of Brexit, British expats no longer enjoy the status of EU citizens, and so to be eligible to vote in local municipal elections, Brits now fall into the category of “Countries with reciprocal agreements”, which has different criteria for qualification than before.

Well-off Britons have been given a tax windfall by Spain after the southern region of Andalusia abolished a “wealth tax” to attract investors in a controversial move... British expatriates who are residents in Spain or those with second homes along the costas whose worldwide assets are worth more than €700,000 (£612,104) will not have to pay the tax this year. The tax cut also applies to Britons who live in Spain for up to six months per year which can qualify them as tax residents. Andalusia’s conservative regional government hopes the measure will attract more British investors to become tax resident in one of the most popular areas with British property buyers in Spain.

There will be various options for registering including online, but as of Thursday, September 22, “the Ministerial Order is amending the previous Order to include the United Kingdom in the list of countries with an Agreement signed with Spain. ... In order to vote, Brits must have been resident in Spain for 3 years or more and have to be registered on the Padron. Breakdown of the Electoral Census Office announcement.
