The Hague Academy of International Law launches its Eighth Seminar for Advanced Studies in Public and Private International Law. The seminar is aimed at legal professionals who are already familiar with international law and whose professional interest or intellectual curiosity brings to seek further professional training in a specific area of international law.

The topic of the 2012 session is Responding to the Challenges of Natural and Industrial Catastrophes New Directions for International Law.

The six-day seminar aims to provide participants with up-to-date and advanced knowledge of legal and practical mechanisms for protection against the consequences of natural and industrial catastrophes by focusing on the issues of liability, humanitarian protection and reparation, and the challenges it currently creates for practitioners. It is taught by highly qualified and experienced legal professionals and academics.

Lectures and seminars are conducted in English. The number of participants is limited to 30 in order to ensure a high standard and a full exchange of views.

The amount of the registration fee is 3’000 €. On application, a limited number of scholarships can be awarded, but only to candidates from developing countries or countries in transition.

Closing date for registration (applications must arrive by then): 31st August, 2011. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
