ACADÉMIE DE DROIT EUROPÉEN - ACADEMY OF EUROPEAN LAW - EUROPÄISCHE RECHTSAKADEMIE - ACCADEMIA DI DIRITTO EUROPEO (ERA): Summer Course 'European Criminal Justice' (Trier, 23-27 Jun 2008).
This course is intended as an introduction to EU criminal law and to the instruments for cooperation in criminal justice matters. It will consider the origins, the institutional system and the legal framework of criminal justice cooperation in the EU. The following topics will be addressed:
The course includes a visit to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
The size of visitor groups to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg is strictly limited by the Court for practical reasons. Unfortunately we are therefore unable to guarantee that all summer course participants will be able to attend. Places for the ECJ visit will be allocated to registered participants on a "first come, first served" basis.

* European police and judicial cooperation under the Schengen ConventionsThe seminar will feature classic lectures and interactive workshop sessions.
* EU criminal justice developments since the Maastricht Treaty
* The EU Reform Treaty: implications for the ‘third pillar’
* Legal instruments dealing with police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters (Europol Convention, Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance)
* Mutual recognition in the EU: existing legislation and proposals (European Arrest Warrant, European Evidence Warrant)
* EU legislation referring to serious cross-border crime
* Organisation of police and criminal justice cooperation (European Judicial Network, Eurojust, Europol, OLAF, Frontex)
