(Verona, March 19 and 20, 2009)
International Conference
(Verona, March 19 and 20, 2009)
Organization: Prof. Stefan Leible (Universität Bayreuth), Prof. Franco Ferrari (Università degli Studi di Verona)
Since it is believed that the proper functioning of the internal market creates a need, in order to improve the predictability of the outcome of litigation, certainty as to the law applicable and the free movement of judgments, for the conflict-of-laws rules in theMember States to designate the same national law irrespective of the country of the court in which an action is brought, it cannot surprise that efforts have beenmade to draft uniform European conflict-of-laws rules in the area of contract law as well. This conference will examine in detail the result to which these efforts have led, namely the Regulation (EC) No 593/2008 of the European Parliament and the of the Council of 17 June 2008 on the law applicable to contractual obligations (Rome I).
