THE UK government is extending support for potentially at-risk groups – including pensioners, disabled people and those with language difficulties who live in Europe – by continuing the activity of the UK Nationals Support Fund (UKNSF) and supplementing it with an additional £1 million. The UKNSF provides funds to eight organisations to support UK nationals who need assistance with their residency applications.

SUPPORT in Spain, a non-profit community information project run by the University of Birmingham in collaboration with the British Embassy, has updated its guide for expats living in Spain. The site contains useful information on how to get extra support and help on a wide range of topics, such as healthcare, disability services and benefits, as well as providing a directory of local support organisations. If you or a friend has an unexpected welfare or health requirement whilst living in Spain, the Support in Spain website may have the information you need. And now the guide has been updated to include the Costa Blanca and Murcia and Cataluña, and also covers the following areas: the Costa del Sol, Almería, the Balearic islands and the Canary Islands.

An Embassy spokesperson said: “The Spanish Government’s Vaccination Strategy is clear that, as a matter of public health, all people living in Spain are eligible for the vaccine, regardless of nationality or residency status. At the current time, those in the priority groups are being vaccinated – irrespective of nationality or type of sickness insurance. The Vaccination Strategy is updated regularly to include new priority groups as the number of doses available gradually increases. “Those UK Nationals who are already registered in the public health system should be contacted by their regional health service to arrange an appointment".

La vacunación contra el covid-19 que se inició hace ya tres meses en Almería ha permitido inyectar más de 108.000 dosis entre los residentes en la provincia, muchos de ellos de origen extranjero que se encuentran asentados en distintas localidades cuyos ayuntamientos han colaborado con el Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS) tanto para la realización de traducciones, la localización de usuarios e incluso para tratar de regularizar ciertas situaciones. Según los últimos datos del censo, de los casi 728.000 residentes en la provincia unos 154.600 son ciudadanos de origen extranjero --unos 1.500 de más de 80 años--, la mayor parte de ellos de nacionalidad marroquí (61.200), pero también de Rumanía (23.800), países de América del Sur (12.500) o Reino Unido, que suma de cerca de 16.000 residentes muchos de ellos de avanzada edad, entre otras nacionalidades.
